CalSip

Restore and Protect Crops and Trees with Calcium and Sulfur Fertilizer

CalSip™ is a liquid fertilizer formulated to provide crops two important secondary nutrients: calcium and sulfur. While these nutrients are essential to all crops, some require more than others. When high-calcium crops such as apples, cruciferous vegetables, cherries, and citrus fruits are not reaching their growth potential—or showing stunted growth—additional calcium can help improve yields. This fertilizer, with sulfur and calcium, can provide the extra nutrients that these plants need to bolster their growth, yield and prevent nutrient deficiencies.

Benefits of CalSip calcium and sulfur fertilizer

  • Corrects or prevents calcium deficiency, stunted growth, and reduced yields
  • Promotes strong plant cell growth
  • Improves resistance to stress, drought and disease
  • Improves water penetration through soil
  • Easy to apply at planting or throughout the growing season

Preventing Calcium Deficiencies in Crops

Calcium deficiencies can occur in a variety of ways. Soils with low pH are more vulnerable to calcium deficiency. Other fertilizers and soil salinization can also offset calcium levels. Though calcium is not needed in high amounts, a calcium deficiency will quickly stunt plant growth. It is also important to note that calcium is not mobile in the plant. This means the plant can suffer from calcium deficiency at any time in its growth cycle. Since calcium is a key building block in the plant’s cell walls, a calcium deficiency will affect all its tissues, including leaves, stems, branches, blossoms, fruit, and seeds. To prevent a calcium deficiency in apples, cruciferous vegetables, cherries, citrus, and other crops with higher calcium demands, it’s helpful to apply a fertilizer with additional calcium.

Benefits of a Calcium Fertilizer

Both calcium and sulfur are a part of the 17 essential plant nutrients. Calcium and sulfur, along with magnesium, are considered secondary nutrients in plant development. Calcium, sulfur and magnesium are not as essential as the primary nutrients, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, but they are, nonetheless, critical to plant growth. The benefits of calcium and sulfur fertilizer are numerous, and preventing calcium and sulfur deficiencies can help to prevent stunted growth and low yields, as well as unhealthy soil conditions.

Calcium is only xylem mobile, so it cannot move freely throughout the plant where it’s needed. Calcium can also easily be lost in the soil, so it’s easy for crops and trees to become calcium deficient at varying growth stages. Adding a fertilizer high in calcium can help to prevent calcium deficiency and also help with the following:

  • Improve cell wall strength
  • Maintain healthy pH levels
  • Improve water penetration through the soil
  • Improve disease resistance

Benefits of a Sulfur Fertilizer

Sulfur is also an important secondary nutrient, and it’s important for healthy plant growth. There are many benefits of a sulfur fertilizer, especially in the production of starch, sugars, oils, fats, and vitamins. Since sulfur plays a key role in forming chlorophyll, which in turn allows plants to produce these important ingredients, a sulfur fertilizer can help to increase yields and plant quality in many crops. If your crops or trees are showing signs of a sulfur deficiency, adding a fertilizer high in sulfur can help with the following:

  • Stimulate chlorophyll production to improve the production of starch, sugars, oils, fats, and vitamins
  • Increase crop yields and produce quality
  • Activate enzymes and improve biochemical reactions
  • Improve protein production, which is important for plant health

How to Apply CalSip Calcium and Sulfur Fertilizer

CalSip can be used during planting or during the growing season to correct and prevent calcium deficiencies. The additional liquid ammonium sulfate fertilizer makes it ideal for many crops which require higher levels of both sulfur and calcium to thrive. Since a calcium deficiency is difficult to detect unless damage has occurred, it’s ideal to conduct a soil test before planting, and a tissue test before harvest, to accurately monitor calcium levels as well as calcium uptake. Keep in mind that calcium may be present in the soil, but not available to plants. Our agronomists can help you determine if CalSip calcium and sulfur fertilizer is right for your crops, trees, or soil type. AgroLiquid Scientific Advancements

Plant growth can be stunted by a deficiency in any nutrient, even those required in small amounts. If one nutrient deficiency exists, none of the other nutrients can be used to their full potential. Our agronomists have studied this problem extensively, and developed secondary, micro- and macronutrient fertilizer programs to solve solve i
