Although many scientists laid the groundwork, chemists Fritz Haber and Carl Bosch invented synthetic nitrogen in the early 1900s.
Haber discovered how to pull nitrogen gas from the air and combine it with hydrogen to create liquid ammonia. Bosch designed the industrial equipment needed to make the chemical reaction work on a large scale. Together, they created the Haber-Bosch process, which allowed for the mass production of synthetic fertilizers used in agriculture today. In fact, without the Haber-Bosch process we would only be able to produce approximately two-thirds the amount of food we do now!
What this means to growers
The Nutriq technology in High NRG-N makes it much more effective and efficient – and environmentally safer – than anhydrous ammonia or other commodity nitrogen fertilizers. This soil-applied nitrogen is released over time to provide nutrition when your crops need it most.

This trial evaluated the efficiency of High NRG-N against standard 28% UAN and measured the performance impact of adding AgroLiquid accesS to a UAN program.
Nitrate Leaching Comparison Between High NRG-N and 28% UAN
In this trial, researchers used a specialized facility with sloped soil plots to measure how much nitrate runs off the surface or leaks into underground drainage tiles. It showed that High NRG-N reduced nitrate leaching by an average of 40% compared to 28% UAN.
High NRG-N Topdress in Winter Wheat
This study evaluated the timing of High NRG-N topdress applications on soft red winter wheat yields.
